On the way up to my room I passed Mom's bedroom and she called me in and asked me if I was in hot water with Dad. I told her the story. She said she believed me but I could tell she was suspicious. She gave me a long lecture about lying and told me how the greatest bond between parents and their children was trust.

I felt terrible.
