Cut about 10 minutes from band this morning with Phil Comstock. I never did it before and I was a little jittery. Feb. 16, Monday:
You know that party last Saturday. Well, today Danny told me that Carol Short told him that Stella was really all up in the air about it. Really on cloud number 9. Boy, that really made me feel good. I've been feeling good all day now. Just before we left for the game between 7th and 8th periods I saw her down in the Freshman hall. I was walking right past her so I reached my hand up and put it on her arm and kind of rubbed it and said Hi. She said Hi back but not as friendly as I would have liked it.
Danny and I are doing our report on narcotics. We've got to get to the library.
Had a real jumbled up dream last night. I'll see if I can tell it in any order. Feb. 18, Wednesday:
I was taking Jane Carber on a date on a sunny summer day. Afterwards we stood outside her house talking. She asked me if I wanted to come in, so we went in. I met her father and mother. When I took off my coat (I don't know why I had one on such a hot day) it seems I was wearing only a T-shirt that was too big for me. Jane's father laughed at me. I dug around in my pocket and, somehow, pulled out my tan sweater. I put it on and it turned out there was a white dress shirt inside it so I was all dressed up (weird, huh?). Then slowly it developed that this was a party because more and more guests began arriving. All of a sudden Jane's house began looking very ritzy and rich.
Pretty soon we took a boat ride way down a long muddy river in the back yard. After we got back we looked out the back window and we saw Gary Scarfpin, who used to be my best friend and play army and Tom Sawyer and stuff. He was standing in a ditch cleft right out of the ground. There was brown muddy water with a stiff current going all around him up to his waist. He had no shirt on. Jane said in a very interested voice, "Oh, does he go swimming back here often?" I replied that I had no idea.
We were supposed to give our report today in health. I was scared shitless. If he called on us weâd just have to say, "Sorry." But he didn't. This is terrible. I'm afraid I'm getting ulcers. Feb. 20, Friday:
Went over to Danny's and stayed up late watching Godzilla. Listened to records. Had a ball. Played Monopoly. His little sisters bugged us.
